Makin Air Helicopters is independently owned and operated with locations in Hayward and Petaluma California. We provide professional helicopter training from pre-private through Certified Flight Instructor. Our training is individually tailored for your busy schedule. Flight training is done using Robinson R-22 and R-44 helicopters. We offer specialized training for instrument and add on ratings.

Future oil exploration and drilling, communities' demands for air ambulance service, expanding fire fighting capabilities and law enforcement are expanding employment opportunities for helicopter pilots. For the student who desires to become a professional helicopter pilot, we offer a training program that focuses on that goal from the very first lesson. We will explain the path and direction you will need to get you to this goal. We can set a plan in place that will reduce the time and money it will take to become a professional helicopter pilot.
Opportunity
Not sure if flying helicopters is the right path for you? Always wanted to try flying a helicopter but haven’t had the opportunity to try? Well now you can! We offer the unique opportunity to take the controls of an R-22 helicopter. You can sign up for a lesson where we will go over how the helicopter operates, some basic energy management, and a safety briefing. Next we go out to the helicopter and perform a pre flight of the helicopter where you will see how the controls work and make sure the helicopter is ready to fly. Then it is up in the air where you take the flight controls one at a time until you are flying the helicopter. After the flight we do a post-briefing where you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. We will answer them in an honest, no pressure manner. The lesson lasts approximately 1½ hours and can be scheduled any day of the week. The cost is $150.00. Please call ahead to schedule. Gift certificates are also available.
